During the first half of the 20th century, there were a lot of American migrant workers without permanent homes or a livelihood. These were self-reliant, proud and respectful urban cowboys. They were called hoboes.
Hoboes traveled far and they traveled light. They journeyed all over to work, and developed a system of signs to provide information, warnings and directions to other hoboes. These signs, or symbols, made traveling easier, safer and smarter. Nowadays, the word “hobo” represents other things. But it still means being travel-wise and independent. And travel intelligence has always been a hobo motto.
So, how Hobo are you?
